Finding this site has been a treat. Fond memories of reading the latest in Sports Car Graphic. Your designs were inspiring and innovative. I dare say the ideas keep on churning. Good to see you hale and hearty. All best.

I was reading an article in the May 26 Autoweek on coming tech changes in F1 and saw that FIA is considering "movable aerodynamics" and couldn't resist visiting the Chaparral site to get a jolt of - nostalgia – is not the right word “longing” or even “melancholy” at the sight of those cars. What a time it was and how I miss the fun being a fan of the drivers, the engineering the racing. Above all Jim Hall. I guess there are others and many really smart, inventive people in auto racing and design today, but for pure, from the gut make it go there is only one. Thanks for my crank turning.

What a pleasure to find this site. The Chaparral cars were always my favorite. I wish I still had my Cox slot car!

So nice to come across this site. While I now live in (Niagara-on-the-Lake) in Canada I grew up in England. In my late teens I made a plastic model of a Chaparral 2 and as my interest in racing cars developed was always attracted to the Chaparrals. I now own an Exoto 1/18 scale 2F, have a 2E on order, and have ordered the 2J for when it is released. Three years ago I saw the 2J at Goodwood - but is was so wet and the car was on dry's it was very slow up the hill. I'll be there in a month so hopefully I'll see another Chaparral then.
Now I've discovered this locale I must head the 1999 Mustang down there in the winter months.
Thank you Mr Hall,
Martin

Mr Hall ... Also a great fan of yours. As a Mechanical Engineering student at the Univ of WI in 1965/66 I sent you a note on boundry layer control for reduced drag. Wonder if you received? Now retired, i worked 40 years on engines at Ford and Chrysler.

I always thought the creations of Jim Hall were amazing.I never thought I would ever see them in person till my daughter moved to Midland.I visited the exhibit and turned her into a fan.She wrote a research paper on the cars and she went to one of the live drives.Jim Hall was going to drive the 2E,but it rained ;I think. Now I have a framed picture of her ,Jim Hall, and the 2E autographed by him. What a trill for someone growing reading about Jim Hall and his cars.A dream come true.

A great Site in keeping with the extraordinary engineering behind the cars themselves in addition to the lateral thinking of the men behind those wonderful cars
Congratulations

I have two Chaparral motors in for a couple of Dynafoil boats that were built back in the mid 70's. The model # is G44B W CC432. My desire is to get them up and running one at a time. I will need a complete gasket kit and a wiring diagram. I immagine the rings are junk but I'm hoping to salvage the pistons and cylinder with steel wool. We'll see how that turns out. These motors have pull starters, are they able to be fitted with electric motors? Do you have marine exhaust systems available? The two pistons run off of a manifold to one Walbro carberator. The carb is junk, do you carry new ones? Would it be more cost effective to buy a complete new set-up? If so do you have one and at what cost?
I appreciate any help you can be.

Hi Jim:
Jim Musser and I have been working on the interview and hope that it meets your standards. Hope you will be able to make it to Mosport in 2011 for the 50th anniversary celebrations, seeing that you had so much success there.
Cheers,

Jim -- You were the driving force behind my racing obsession! I first saw you in the original Chaparral 2 at Riverside in '63, where you were blowing away a great field until the car broke. I never ceased to be amazed by the creations you turned out. I ended up (for a brief time) shooting photos for auto racing magazines in the latter-'70s and was witness to Brian Redman in the F5000 Lola, Al Unser in the Indy Lola and Patrick Tambay in the Can-Am Lola. But I never had the opportunity to photograph REAL Chaparrals! I now have an extensive diecast car collection which includes as many Chaparrals as I can get my hands on. You are American legend. I was at Laguna Seca in '05 but didn't stand in line to meet you. I have photos of you from your team managing days, but it's not the same as when you were driving. I now make wine in California but a part of me will always be in Midland.

As a very impressionable 10 year old in 1965, I was given a gift of a Cox .049 glo-plug Chapparral model. I will never forget this present. And from that moment, on I was a serious fan of Chaparral Cars. I had the opportunity to see all of your cars in 2005 at Laguna Seca and meet you in the pits. I think you were driving a Cadillac that Saturday. What a great opportunity for me and such an achievement you have made on the racing world. Last week coming back from Roswell NM to Houston, I diverted through Midland and stopped at your shop early Sunday morning to take some pictures. Although it was closed and quiet, it gave me a few minutes to reflect on your achievements and the technology that came out of the shops. A wonderful opportunity. BTW: your model car collection on the back desk is impressive! Currently building a Cobra otherwise I would be interested in the continuation Chaparral. That will be a possiblity in the near future I hope. best regards R.E.Hunt, Spring, TX

A young boy of 11 witness the most amazing event he had seen to date. Afterwards (and for the rest of his life) he continues to be haunted by the images and pends his days searching for the beauty of automotive racing.
It has been a wonderful 44 years so for to date.

Greetings Gentlemen and Jim Hall:
I'm on duty at a hosptital in Utah and started this and had to leave, hope I didn't send part of it. I'll start over.
It is a thrill to have the opportunity to communicate to any
one associated with Chaparral but like the excitment of being able to contact an old dear friend from the past, it is especially poingnant to address Jim Hall. I went to every Times Grand Prix at Riverside from 1963 to 1970 and revere those experiences. I consider Jim Hall the greatest of all the giants in auto racing, he drove very well, he designed well and executed well, his innovations pervade throughout the racing world even today. A true genius. I thank him for his role model as a dedicated builder and racer entertaining millions who understood the magnitude of his contribution, and abilities. I will go to Midland to see the Museum and the cars. I hope I would get a glimpse of the man behind the car when there.
I remeber the EBJ, named by Hap Sharp, the highdensity foam injection technique pioneered by Jim Hall, the (I think) 58 mm Webers built by Chaparral, and of course the 2J that could have been introduced clinging to the ceiling with the snow mobile motor running, Phil Hill entering turn 2 at Riverside and braking and deploying the wing, the front end dancing back and forth. I also knew some fortunate enough to be on the track at the same time as the Chaparral and said when it passed them the motor would vibrate their chest like no other car. Many other memories in there.
A heart felt thanks for creating a place where we can go see these truely marvelous machines.
John R Collins Provo, Utah
