Jim, I've been a fan/admirer of yours since I was a kid. It was such a great thrill for me to not only meet you at last years Monterey historic races, but to be around your wonderful creations, and see them in action! It was definately one of the top highlights of my life, and an experience I will NEVER forget. I'd just like to take the opprtunity to thank you for the privelage to meet you, talk with you, albeit far too briefly, and shake the hand of a true hero and inspiration. I look forward to seeing you again someday. best of luck with the continuation cars! What a thrill it will be to see them on the vintage grids in the future. Take care, and have a terrific new year. Greg Heffner.

My first big car race was a Can Am race at Mosport where I saw the 2E...I was hooked on the Chaparrals and was a big fan of Jim Hall!
Thanks for the memories!

Hello to all at Chaparral Cars. I'm delighted to see all of the white roadrunners in a proper place. What wonderful memories to see them I'm only sorry there is no 2C in existance anymore it was truly an innovator like all the Chaparrals. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Hall at the 1970 Trans Am race at Bryar Motorsports Park he was very gracious and a true gentleman. It would be great to see a Chaparral Camaro in the museum also. Perhaps someday you might build a replica of the 2C and the Camaro or perhaps be able purchase the surviving Camaro. Thanks Jim for everything I'm looking forward to visiting the museum soon.

I was a huge Chaparral fan as a kid ans still have my Monogram 2D, and poster from the Nurburgring 1000 km victory. I'm very happy to know that things are alive and well in Midland. Keep up the good work.

I have long admired JIm Hall as an innovator but had almost forgotten how deeply he influenced me and how (many years ago) he caused me to begin to think in fundamentally different ways about almost everything. Who could have known that a magazine article about "the polar moment of inertia" would do so much. Thank you Jim.

Hi
It's so good to find this site.
I bought a Cox Chaparral 2 slot car when they first came out in the mid 60's and was knocked out by the beautiful body design. Gathered all the info about the marque that I could and went to my very first real race in 1967 (the BOAC). When the 2F won it was a dream come true. I can still remember watching Phil/Mike rounding Clearways and gassing it at the start of (what was then) Top Straight. The wing flattened out and there was a deep roar. If I remember correctly there was just the one gear change along the straight. That car was magic, and what a contrast to the screams of the Ferrari P4s and Porsche 910s also racing.
I feel privileged to have been there. About the only top driver not there that day was Jim Clark. During the 1968 BOAC the news came through that he had been killed at Hockenheim. For me that era was the pinnacle of sports car racing. Top drivers and the most amazing and beautiful cars. And the best? The 2F without a doubt, though the P4 runs it close.
Unfortunately I missed the cars at Goodwood, but hopefully they'll be back, or perhaps I might get to Midland. Now that would be rather special.
Good luck for the future.
cheers
Mick

First became aware of the fast white Chevy Automatic Batmobiles in 1965 - what beautiful cars they were. Lost track of the rest of the story - thank god for the internet.

Might seem like a small point of interest.... But while I know that the 2D Made histoty and set records at Nurburgring. Finding general info. on that fact is easy enough. But what I can't seem to find out is... What was a typical Chaparral 2D lap time at Nurburgring? If anyone out there knows. I would be grateful for the info. Many thanks!! Devin

Jim,
I just wanted to thank you for a lifetime of awe and wonder. I remember following your victory at Sebring in 65'. I followed your victories(and struggles) throughout the 60's and into the 70's. I loved the 2D and it is still my favorite(I had a poster in college of it cresting the hill at Nurburing). My greatest thrill was traveling to Watkins Glen in 1970(a gift for h/s grad) and seeing Jackie Stewart taking the 1st laps in the 2J.
Seeing the pictures of the cars on display brings back all the memories and I thank you for each and every one. I only hope to be able to visit the display one day.
Thanks again,
D.J. Martin

It is simply amazing how a series of sports racing cars would have a such a profound impact on so many people, and continue to affect them long after these cars have last turned a wheel in anger. The Chaparral's captured the hearts and souls of so many...and I am amongst them.
Thanks to Jim Musser, I had the chance to not only see, but sit in the 2E continuation car yesterday, November 9th at the GM Tech Center. A near lifetime of images taken from magazines came bursting to life. The 2E, in the flesh, was every bit as captivating as I imagined it would be. Without question, the most wonderful sports racing car ever.
Thanks, Jim...now if I could only figure out a way to buy one of those continuation cars.....
All the Best,
Bob Weber

Dear Mr. Hall,
Thank you for a lifetime of devotion, innovation, and creation. As the true inventor of automotive ground effects(in the opinion of many),your personal involvement in the design, and racing of the legendary Chapparals, has increased the performance, and safety of millions of passenger cars ever since.I attended every Riverside Can Am race, that your team competed in, and built and raced the Cox 2E slot car, which I purchased (for $5!)at Hilton's Hobby Shop,in South Pasadena, CA. It is my dream to one day shake your hand, and thank you for the fire that you started in a 11 year old boy.( I'm 53 now!) God bless you sir.
Regards, Robert
