It is so nice to see the Chaparral Mark, and the inside of of some of the shops. I first saw the Chaparral 2's at Greenwood Roadway in (I believe) 1964. You had two cars there. One I believe Hap Sharp drove. We were at the curve where it caught the guard rail and the front left wheel well was damaged -- it was out for the rest of the day. But, OH, what a day it was. I can't believe that was 45 years ago ... I wish I could have been a member of your crew ... I am so happy that all the innovation you brought to the racing scene has not been forgotten, and that you are still involved with the awesome creation you let loose on the tarmac. Other friends of mine were watching other things while I was dreaming of what it would have been like to be one of your crew. I'd have gladly handed you your bottles of water. You have had a huge impact on the racing world. So much innovation ... so many milestones and records. Congratulations on all you have done and for those of us who have been inspired by you.

My Chaparral memories were capped by attending the Museum dedication. Vic Elford told me the 2J was the fastest car he ever drove. Gil DeFerran was too humble when I told him he held a speed record which may never be bested. The sparkling eyes. The GS, I, 2C and 2E at Elkhart. Thank you Jim, your friends and co-workers. You have left us gifts we cannot return.

From the first time I used my Tyco slot cars that I got for Christmas in 1973 that included a 2D and a 1970 Camaro, I have been a fan. Be proud, guys, you are the ones that inspired me to join the SCCA, to be a great fan of Chevy engines, and I am eternally grateful to you. I don't want to get all mushy, but..that Tyco set changed my life, ok?

Hello Jim,

I came by your office in Midland for a visit back in June 2001. Since then I saw your cars at Laguna Seca in August 2005 including the continuation 2E. When will that car be finished? What will you be asking for the continuation 2E?

Cheers,

Evan Snyder

I've been a Chaparral fan since the sixties when I used to race them in slot car racing. The two greatest highlights of my interest in motor racing were seeing the 2F win at Brands in '67 and the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. To see the 2F again, albeit not the Brands car,the 2,2J and to see a 2E in the flesh gets me emotional. Never ever thought I would see those in this country. The great man autographed my Richard Falconer/Doug Nye book 'Chaparral'. He is one of my all time heroes. My collection of Chaparral die casts is growing. A visit to the Museum is a must before I die.The 2F is almost certainly my favourite race car of all time, and i've seen some of the best,330P4,917 and so on.
Thanks Jim, you're a top man. Hope you're well.

I'll try to send an email later on with a couple of nice Chaparral photos from 1968. My brother Bob took them at the CanAm race that was held at Bridgehampton, Long Island. I believe the location is now mostly upscale condos and a golf course, but the photos show how beautiful the race track was back then. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks. P.S. Your exhibit at the Petroleum Museum is terrific. Very well done. Jack Werzen

As a teenager I saw the 2E Running at Elkhart Lake's June Sprints and , I think, at Meadowdale Raceway. I was enthralled with the Chaparrals and Jim Hall and Hap Sharp made a Walter Mitty dream come true for me.
I'm currently staying with my son in law at Ft Bliss And my #1 road trip will be to come and see your fabulous museum.
I remember a quote, again I think from Mr Sharp. He was asked about the car's speed at the Mille Millia and he said"it doesn't matter if the Chaparral is going up hill or down hill, it's going too fast". Great stuff! Don Sharp

Recently went to SVRA event at Watkins Glen. I asked my adult sons if there was anything could get for them. Their replies ( independently)were, anything with Can Am, Donahue,or Chaparral (especially the 2F). Those memories are great to relive.

To all involved,
Great site, I wish you had more picture of each type of car and their history. I only wish i could take one of those 2E continuation cars out for few laps on the track. Best wishes to Jim from one who almost remembers the cars and always dreamed of racing them

I have been a Jim Hall and Chaparral fan since I first saw them run at Riverside in the '60's. I even helped lug some tires from the Firestone trailer to the pits at the '65 or '66 USRRC Riverside race and. I saw them run at Laguna Seca a couple of times. I am planning to go to Midland to see them again at the Petroleum Museum in the next year, maybe as soon as Thanks giving week. I need to make sure they are all on dislay and not at Goodwood or some other special exibition. Jim is one of the few people in the world I would classify as one of my heroes.
